About us

We are Marrow Causeway Supply, and we have kept the same yard on Market Lane for seventy-eight years. We are a contractor to the War Ministry, and we do not think it necessary to dress that up. Our order books come from the Ministry and we fill them on the day promised, in the quantity promised, at the price agreed and not a pfen over. Oberbach is a town of 9,259 souls and we are proud that most of them know our gates by sight, whether or not they have ever passed through them.

Our founder. Helene Marrow, born 9 April 1896 at Sudfurt and a farm labourer before she was anything else, laid the first ledger of this firm on 5 June 1948 and kept it until her death on 12 May 1951. She used to say that a contract read twice was worth more than a contract signed in haste, and we have found no reason to argue with her since.

Our history

1. 1948 — 5 June, Oberbach. The company is founded at Oberbach, on Market Lane, with a single storehouse and a handcart, filling its first Ministry order out of premises that would not have held half of what we hold today.

What we do

We supply the War Ministry across four settled lines, and we have never seen reason to chase a fifth merely for the look of a longer list. Our Causeway range covers field hardware to Ministry pattern, tested at our own yard before it ever leaves it. Our Marrow Standard line is a run of general stores kept to a fixed specification year on year, so that a quartermaster ordering in Oberbach need never wonder whether this year's delivery will match last year's. We hold a small Sudfurt Reserve stock, named for the town our founder came from, set aside against Ministry orders that arrive without the usual notice. And we run a contract maintenance service, sending our own men out to inspect and repair what we have already supplied, on the view that a firm that will not stand behind its own goods has no business selling them.

Our yard is open to Ministry inspectors and to trade callers alike, Monday to Friday from seven in the morning until six in the evening, and on Saturday mornings when an order is running against the clock. We do not open our gates on Sunday, and the Ministry has never asked us to.

Working with us

We take on labourers, storemen, clerks and, when the Ministry's schedule requires it, men to drive our carts and lorries between the yard and the sidings. A labourer with us is paid at the going day rate of 1,426.07 marka, and a room in Oberbach can be had for 501.41 marka the month, so a man starting with us need not go hungry nor sleep rough while he learns our ways. We give preference, where the vacancy allows it, to men who have served with the Marsh Regiment, on the plain view that a man who has kept good order under discipline keeps good order in a storehouse.

Applications are taken in writing at the Market Lane office, or in person on any weekday morning. We do not keep applicants waiting long for an answer, whichever way that answer falls.

Investors

Marrow Causeway Supply has traded on the Vellmar Exchange as WRA since 26 September 2024. Our shares closed the last year at 106.88 marka, on 31 December 2025. We report to our shareholders as the Exchange requires and not a day later, and we would ask any shareholder with a question to write to the Market Lane office rather than to telephone, our lines being given over chiefly to Ministry business during the working day.
